Welcome to my Cup Cake Creations blog page. I wanted a place (other than Facebook) to share the cup cakes I have made. I've started the blog with my daughter Chelsea's Alice in Wonderland themed Engagement afternoon tea party. I have a feeling this may be the first of many cup cake sessions to come!

Setting the scene

Because of the threatened 'weather bomb' we changed the venue a couple of days beforehand and hired a lounge off the local Town Hall. I didn't want to completely lose the picture I had created in my mind so we set the party tent up inside it. The floral lanterns (Culinary Council, pack of 6 for $24.95) were probably my favourite prop, so pretty.

Props

Rather than 'use' the antique crockery we filled the cups with little Easter eggs, minature marshmellows, and the little cupcake chocolates (with jelly beans and sprinkles set in them) that I had made.
Chelsea bought the umbrellas for the Sangria she and Geoff made. I bought the 'tea party' balloons online and we filled them with helium.
Sometimes the little things make all the difference.

Then came the arranging

We covered the main 'tea party' table in lace doiley's (from Spotlight), antique cups (thanks Mum) and crockery, some of the little teddy bears I had made years ago and lots of differnet cake stands.

Ready for transport

Iced and ready to go to the venue. I chose to pipe them with Buttercream icing I transported them on 'stable tables' (thanks to the idea from a friend) which kept them really still and they barely moved.

A week ago I made all the cupcakes - Vanilla, Strawberry and Double Chocolate - I froze them.

On the day I used one batch as my 'trial' to become confident with both making the Buttercream frosting and with using the piping bag. I sprinkled them with two different products from Spotlight.

Along came the White Rabbit

This was the one and only White Rabbit I made......he took over an hour to make and I really wasn't sure about him.

Alice was born

I intially tried making full bodied Alice but according to hubby she needed to visit Jenny Craig and may have had 'gender issues'......so hence I stuck with just the head.

Hubby got in on the act

Hubby decided he'd get in on the act and we made these little Chocolate Cakes together.

Coming up Roses

I enjoyed trying to make some 'realistic' Rose buds, I made them in dark and light tones.

Tea Set

No Tea party would be complete without a tea set.

Brights

I spent one afternoon just adding details to the toppers I had already made. Initially I added 'spots' etc with food colouring and a fine paint bruch. Later (after a visit to Spotlight and culinary Council) I bought 'tools' and edible coloured marking pens.

Smile

The Cheshire Cat evolved......

Butterfly's

As time went on I began to experiment with colour and 'bling'.

Starting Simple

I kept it simple at first, with just two colours and no detail.

Blank Canvas

This is where it all started.......Chels sent me a couple of Google images for ideas and off I went.
